Cafira™ is a material that is fully biodegradable at the end of its life cycle, able to return to the earth as nutrients or be transformed into another product. It is made at room temperature, reducing energy consumption, with a brief heat peak that does not exceed 100ºC for a few minutes during preparation. In comparison, a ceramic piece, for example, must reach an average of 1,200ºC for a period of 8 to 24 hours.
In its production, we use biological binders and a by-product of the food industry, coffee grounds, which we collect from bars and restaurants near our studio in Asturias, thus reducing our dependence on materials transported over long distances. We do not use any synthetic additives or binders, nor do we require any toxic materials at any stage of the manufacturing process.
